Morgan's Impromptu Con 2025 Adventures
Impromptu Con is a low effort con. Chaosium provides the Discord channel to post your games and some gift certificates as raffle prizes and some panels. If you run a game, you need to provide your own voice and VTT.
This was lightly attended, but fun nonetheless.

Saturday 13, 5-7pm. (posted start time was 4:30pm)
Complex 347-5
System: CoC 7e - 1980's.
GM: Patricksmatrick (Patrick Corcoran)
Content Warnings: Body Horror
Tone: Survival Horror; isolated and running against the clock.
4 PCs:
hellraiser2269 (Joe) as Dean Rathbone - Nuclear Forensic Scientist,
g_angus_macleod (Angus) as Karl Kazmart - Structural Engineer,
halsgate (Moran) as Airwoman Emily Yanez - Fuel Technician,
Morgan Hua as Anthony Aroni - Air Force Missileer.
Duration: 3.5 hrs with midway break.
It’s the winter of 1984 at the Air Force Base in Brockton, Arkansas. The base houses a dozen Titan II nuclear missiles. About twenty-four hours ago, a fuel leak was detected inside one of the silos. Over the past twelve hours, ten Air Force personnel have entered the silo. None of them have returned. You are the last hope to stop the worst from happening.
This was a survival horror game and we had a good table of Players. The author ran the game for us. We waited for a Player and GM had some technical problems just after we started, so game started a bit late. I enjoyed the game.
=== SPOILER SECTION START ===
The original crew and a rescue team didn't report back. So, our team was sent in to advert any type of disaster and to make sure the nuclear missile is made safe. We got our equipment, NBC (nuclear-biological-chemical) containment suits, radiation, biological, and chemical sensors.
I asked for an acetylene torch. Karl asked for an automatic rifle.
My PC was a Missileer, in charge of launching missiles, and was part-time wrestler that wears a mask and a cape. He's The Minute-Man. His catch phrase: It's time to Launch! I used various WWE wrestling moves throughout the game.
We had a choice of using the freight elevator or stairs. 3 of us took the elevator, Yanez took the stairs. There was some sort of organic growth leaking out of the controls, we used the slightly malfunctioning elevator anyway after a short fright when it dropped a few feet when turned on. At the bottom was a body in a NBC suit, helmet removed, face horribly burned by radiation. Geiger counter showed no signs of radiation.
We went to the control room, there's another body slumped over the control panel, I pull the body back and he's still alive, but barely, and face horribly mutilated. The display on the control panel show random characters, some in an unknown font. I pull out my operations manual and look for the reset procedure. It required removing a panel, I did that and inside is the same growth. Using the acetylene torch, I try to burn away the growth. It burns, but comes back immediately. The missile countdown speeds up. The missile is set to launch straight up, not targeting any specific location. Launch console is fubared, so we can't do anything here.
PCs decide to dump the fuel on the missile so it can't launch. We call upstairs and give them our status and our plan. Upstairs tells us to disable the warhead instead.
As we leave the control room, a many tentacled facehugger tries to latch onto me from behind. I try to suplex it into the floor, but fail. Karl gets it off my helmet with a crowbar and then he flings it away and is able to shoot it with his rifle. When it dies, there's a huge release of radiation. I mention a late night movie about strange creatures on an island that eats radiation.
At the silo, we see 3 crewmen worshipping the missile (reminding me of Beneath the Planet of the Apes which I mention). Above, there's an organic thing feeding on the nose cone/nuke. There's no radiation, so we figure the nuke is disabled, so we plan on putting timed detonators on the fuel lines, start a slow fuel leak, and blow this all up.
As we head down the ladder, the 3 crewmen attack, the head of one explodes and a facehugger tries to attach itself to Yanez. I clothesline the other two crewmen and send them tumbling to the bottom of the silo (It's time to Launch!). Again, Karl is able to get the thing off of Yanez and I stomp it to death. Another burst of radiation.
We figure it'll take 20 mins to go up the stairs, so we set the detonators to go off in 30 mins. On the way up, more facehuggers come after us. We flee. One attaches to my helmet and I facebutt it into a wall, killing it, but I crack my helmet. In the connecting tunnel, another crewman attacks us and Karl opens fire and it sets off the fuel vapors. Yanez doesn't make it. We rush up the stairs as they're collapsing. Karl doesn't make it.
Only Dean and I make it to the top. Then the detonators go off and there's a giant spike of radiation. Dean and all the other personnel will die of cancer in the future. I survive without getting cancer (made my Luck roll which was down to 10 Luck from 65. I made the die roll exactly).
My PC will continue to wrestle and work as a Missileer, spending his idle time writing a SF novel about an alien invasion in a missile silo.
The GM tells us the aliens were just trying use the missile to get home. Wait, did we just kill ET?

Sunday 14, 1-5pm (4 hrs, scheduled for 4-6 hrs)
Genius Loci
System: CoC 7e - 1925
GM: Morgan Hua
Content Warnings: Unenlightened Mental Hospital
Tone: Investigative, Save a Friend
5 PCs: (2 players, 1 no show, 1 observer)
yellowthreadst (Matt C) - Nevada Jones kevin._h (Kevin H) - Wentworth Avebury
A colleague and dear friend admitted themselves into the Danvers State Hospital. Weeks later, a letter arrives asking the PCs to rescue him.
I had a good table of Players. With only 2 Players, the game finished in 4 hrs.
=== SPOILER SECTION START ===
PCs did a tour of Danvers, Nevada got a date with a nurse who was willing to look up some records for him. Wentworth made an express order from a grave stone maker engraved with an Elder Sign. They tried to place the Elder Sign at night, but got caught by orderlies and the Director on the hospital grounds. After a fight, Wentworth knocked out two orderlies with ether and fled with Nevada Jones who was bleeding out. Wentworth stabilized Nevada and they went to a hospital. Knowing the sacrifice of their friend was the next night, the PCs went back to the hospital (with only 2 and 3 HPs, and low on Luck) and broke in to the J-ward to rescue their friend. An orderly and the Director show up, but the PCs jam the door between I and J-ward. And they make their escape rescuing their friend.
